Along with launching the Cybertruck in Canada and Mexico, Tesla is also now taking order for the Foundation Series Cybertrucks in the US without a reservation.
Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, and its unique design and advertised capabilities made it extremely popular, with official reservation numbers easily topping 1 million, and unofficial estimates putting that number closer to 2 million or above.
Tesla then finally launched the Cybertruck late last year, inviting customers with a reservation to configure their orders.
This was for the Foundation Series Cybertrucks, which carry a US$20,000 premium over the regular pricing (but do come with a bunch of extra accessories and goodies), which was already significantly higher than originally advertised in 2019. This meant not everyone was converting their reservation into an order.
Now nine months after the first deliveries, and just a few months before Foundation Series production is expected to end, Tesla is now allowing anyone to order a Cybertruck.
According to an update to Tesla’s website on Thursday night, you can now order a Foundation Series Cybertruck directly from the online configurator.
If you do, delivery of the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant could happen as soon as this month, while the CyberBeast is estimated between October and December.
This move to open up orders comes after recent reports that customers who had placed in order within the last month were getting an invitation to configure.
This means Tesla is running out of reservation holders willing to spend the extra money for a Foundation Series, which also likely means production of “regular” Cybertrucks will begin soon.
