Tesla will be allowing owners to upgrade to a new vehicle and transfer their Full Self-Driving (FSD) package for another month, announcing today that the program has been extended until September 30, 2024.
Tesla first allowed FSD transfers last year, with CEO Elon Musk saying it would be a one-time offer, encouraging owners to take advantage of it before Q3 ended. Since then however, Tesla has brought the program back several times, most recently earlier this year when it was available for just a few days before it was abruptly pulled.
Despite repeated requests from owners, who shelled out as much as C$19,500/US$15,000 for software that Tesla has yet to deliver a feature complete version of, to make it a permanent thing, Musk has refused, most recently at the Annual Shareholder Meeting last month.
However, at that meeting Musk did agree to bring it back for “one more quarter.” Eleven days later we reported that the offer was live, but as we noted, it was strangely set to expire on August 31, 2024, one month before the end of third quarter, the time which promotions like this usually expire.
Today Tesla corrected that, announcing on X that the offer was being extended to September 30, 2024.
To help make sure owners are aware of the offer, Tesla also sent a mass email out today letting them know about it, however the email was sent before the deadline extension. Tesla will likely send out a follow-up email with the new dates soon.
