Tesla has launched a new offer in the US in an attempt to get more customers eligible for the federal tax credit behind the wheel of a new Model 3 Performance or Model X All-Wheel-Drive (AWD).
In the US the Model 3 Performance and Model X are both eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. However, only just, with each vehicle starting at US$54,990 and US$79,990 respectively, just $10 below their respective price thresholds.
However, unlike in Canada where options do not impact eligibility for the iZEV rebate, it does in the US, so changing the paint or seating layouts in the Model 3 Performance or Model X AWD makes both vehicle ineligible.
Tesla already made the white interior option free on the Model 3 Performance, and now the automaker is also making all paint options free on the electric sedan. You can also opt for the six-seat (+US$6,500) or the seven-seat (+US$3,500) options for free on the Model X AWD.
But there is a catch.
Tesla does not give an expiry date for the offer, only saying it is available for a limited time and subject to change at any time.
So is it worth it to add FSD? For Model 3 Performance buyers, not as much since the most expensive paint option, Ultra Red is only US$2,000. However, if you were going for the six-seat Model X AWD anyway, you are essentially only paying US$1,500 for FSD with this deal.
